What is United Women in Faith?

United Women in Faith is a supportive, inclusive Christian membership organization where women grow spiritually, develop as leaders and serve and work to create a world in which all women, children and youth thrive.

Our Mission: We seek to connect and nurture women through Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship and education so that they can inspire, influence and impact local and global communities.

Our Vision: We are a powerful, fearless force driven by God’s love and united in sisterhood. With a focus on women, children and youth, we act for justice and transform communities.

We face the realities we see in the world, even when they are not the ones we would like to see. However, our goal is not to bear witness simply to harms but also to God’s love by acting boldly to change those harms.

United Women in Faith at Oceanview

All women are welcome to attend our fun and informative meetings. Each meeting we have a focus: an on-point topic relating to missions, local needs, social justice, environmental awareness or similar. We also like to have a Hands-On Project, something related to our focus that engages our hands. That way we can talk but at the same time DO something creative, helpful, and engaging.

We gather on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm - except for a summer break. Where we meet may change, so contact Kim for more information. We would love to have you join us!

If you are looking for Christian women’s fellowship, a sister-hood, that has fun and makes a difference in the community; then come join Oceanview UWF. Contact us at: umw@oceanviewumc.com.

Who can join United Women in Faith?

Any woman who commits to the vision and mission of United Women in Faith and wants to engage in mission, study, personal growth and social action is invited to join. You don’t have to be a member of a United Methodist church or any church, nor do you have to meet an age requirement to be a member. You are welcome.

Our Commitment - Our Action

Bold action, like faith, takes courage. Our bravery is inspired by God’s love and our powerful commitment to improve the lives of women, children and youth. United Women in Faith works for justice through compassionate service and advocacy to change unfair policies and systems that harm women, children and youth—from racial and gender injustice to economic inequality, climate issues and more.

We offer educational experiences designed to inspire spiritual growth, personal development and community nurture to enable powerful collective change.

The many mutual learning opportunities and partnerships we offer include:

  • Mission u, reaching nearly 20,000 participants through three new curricula each year—one for children, one for youth and one for adults—all focusing on a shared biblical theme from a justice perspective. The train-the-trainers structure enables participants in turn to lead the study in their own districts and local groups.
  • The Reading Program offers members a way to choose, track and share recommended books through four reading plans in a wide range of subjects and ages.
  • Workshops and webinars on personal and spiritual growth and our social justice campaigns
  • National events, incorporating education and action for laywomen, such as our quadrennial Assembly.

Reading is connecting.

The Reading Program is not meant to be completed alone or in a vacuum. You can enrich the experience by doing one or several of these things:

  • Share the program with United Women in Faith members and members of the community.
  • Help people attain books. Distribute this guide.
  • Connect with local and district groups. Start a book club, download books onto an e-reader to pass around and share, present book reviews at group meetings.
  • Display a progress chart in your church for all who wish to participate, and post displays to encourage book sales.
  • Pray. Books often raise concerns about people, countries, and issues. Bring these concerns to God during your prayer time at home and at group meetings.
  • Advocate for tangible change. Many Reading Program books address issues including climate change, mass incarceration and racism. Organize a task force to address these issues in your community.
