Pastor Emily Denmark McGee

Welcome to Oceanview–I’m so glad you’re here!

At Oceanview, we all come from many different walks of life and are discovering life’s meaning through a transformational relationship with Jesus. If you are looking for a church home, a community, or are curious about a relationship with God, we invite you to join us for worship on this website or in person at 10:00am on Sundays.

About Pastor Emily

I’m Pastor Emily and I've been the pastor at Oceanview since February of 2018. I was born in Tampa, Florida and grew up all over the state. My husband, Shawn, and I were married in 2005 and welcomed a baby girl named Mary Virginia to our family in 2007. Shawn has owned and operated OceanSide Masonry in Jupiter since 2000 and we’ve called Abacoa home since 2006.

Ministry

In 2002, I graduated with my Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. After earning one unit of clinical pastoral education in the chaplaincy program at Tampa General Hospital, I was hired on staff at Oceanview in September 2002 as the assistant to the pastor.

I became a probationary elder in 2004 and was appointed to Saint Pauls in Tallahassee and Simpson Memorial in Riviera Beach a year later. I left that church in the spring of 2007 to go on family leave when our beautiful daughter was born.

During those 5 years, my young family and I attended Oceanview. In 2012, I was appointed to St. Peters in Wellington and served there until I came back to Oceanview in February of 2018.

Relationship with God

I believe community is one of the most important parts of someone’s journey and relationship with God. We can pray, we can read the Bible and we can have profound experiences with God on our own. But nothing sticks until we share it with someone else. True transformation happens in community. We walk a path on this big blue marble together. Jesus walked with his 12 (plus the crowds). It’s clear to me from the gospels that Jesus was building a beloved community. It’s what the church ought to be.

Favorite Scripture

My Favorite scripture comes from Luke 15:11-32. “The parable of the prodigal son.” It’s the part of the Bible I would save in a fire if I could only keep one. It tells us who God is and what we mean to God.
