Home Worship for Sunday, September 26 2021

Staying home is a form of loving your neighbor. Think about it, you may be staying home for your own health but in reality you then become less of a carrier to others that you might come in contact with. We hope you will feel close to God who is near even if we are far apart. May God Bless you and Keep you.

If you are in a high risk category, it is highly recommended that you remain safe as much as possible. Caregivers and family members are encouraged to do the same, so as to not jeopardize their loved ones.

If you are not comfortable attending socially distanced activities, please stay home and stay in touch!

Prelude: Let All Things Now Living

Call to Worship: God Whispers to Each of Us

Leader: God whispers to each of us: you are my beloved, created in love for love.

People: My spirit answers, here I am, Lord. Speak to me anew.

Leader: Then let us gather, old and young, small and great, to dream God's dreams, receive God's power, and do God's deeds.

People: Here we are, Lord. Shine the light of your love on us. Kindle your Spirit within us. Work your redeeming will in us, that the world may be one through the power of your love.

Hymn: UMH #593 Here I Am, Lord (Organ)

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry

All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save

I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright

Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night

I will go, Lord, if you lead me, I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain

I have wept for love of them, They turn away

I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone

Who will speak my word to them, Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame

I will set a feast for them, My hand will save

Finest bread I will provide, 'Til their hearts be satisfied

I will give my life to them, Whom shall I send?

#883 Statement of Faith of UC of Canada

We are not alone, we live in God's world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God's presence,

to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

We praise you, O God, for though you do as you please, your pleasure is justice with compassion. We worship you, O God, for though you choose your servants as you wish, you elect people who are called to serve all in obedience to you. We are awed by the powers of nature, but assured that there is no force or being that can overpower you. We are most grateful that you make yourself known to us through the healing and saving power of Jesus Christ, our Leader and Friend. Amen.

B. David Hostetter, Prayers for the Seasons of God’s People: Worship Aids for the Revised Common Lectionary Year B (Abingdon, 1999), 187-188.

Scripture: Daniel 3:13-20 (NIV)

13 Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”

16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace.

The Lord bless you And keep you, Make his face shine upon you

And be gracious to you, The Lord turn his Face toward you

And give you peace

Amen, Amen, Amen

May his favor Be upon you, And a thousand generations

And your family, And your children

And their children, And their children

May his presence Go before you, And behind you And beside you

All around you And within you; He is with you, He is with you

In the morning, In the evening; In your coming, And your going

In your weeping And rejoicing; He is for you, He is for you

May the road rise to meet you,

may the wind be always at your back,

may the sun shine warm upon your face,

may the rains fall soft upon your fields,

and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Amen.
