Easter Hymn: Christ the Lord Has Risen Today

Sing along with this favorite Easter Hymn, recorded by Matt Johnson on the Oceanview Pipe Organ.

Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia!     Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!

Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!     Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!    Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!

Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!     Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!     Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!

Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!     Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!     Foll’wing our exalted Head, Alleluia!

Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!     Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!     Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!

Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!     Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

Easter Call to Worship

Leader: Christ is Risen

People: He is Risen indeed

Leader: You have turned our mourning into dancing! You have taken away our funeral clothes and re-clothed us in joy, so that our whole being—body, mind and soul—might sing praise to you and not be silent.

People: O Lord, our Lord, we will give thanks to you forever!

Scripture from Acts 10:34-48 NRSV

Gentiles Hear the Good News

34 Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. 37 That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40 but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit

44 While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47 “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

Holy Water

Holy Water (We the Kingdom). Songwriters: Andrew Bergthold  Holy Water lyrics © Capitol Christian Music Group.

God, I'm on my knees again . God, I'm begging please again. I need You , Oh, I need You

Walking down this desert road , Water for my thirsty soul. I need You . Oh, I need You

Your forgiveness ... Is like sweet, sweet honey on my lips

Like the sound of a symphony to my ears. Like holy water on my skin.

Dead man walking, slave to sin , I wanna know about being born again. I need You, Oh, God, I need You.

So, take me to the riverside, Take me under, baptize. I need You, Oh, God, I need You.

Your forgiveness ... Is like sweet, sweet honey on my lips

Like the sound of a symphony to my ears. Like holy water on my skin.

I don't wanna abuse Your grace . God, I need it every day

It's the only thing that ever really  Makes me wanna change....

Your forgiveness ... Is like sweet, sweet honey on my lips

Like the sound of a symphony to my ears. Like holy water on my skin.

It's like holy water on my skin ...

It's like holy water on my skin ...

Oh, it's like holy water...

Easter Prayer

Rev. Betty Kniss

On this day of resurrection draw us forth, God of all creation. Draw us forward and away from limited certainty into the immense world of your love. Give us the capacity to even for a moment taste the richness of the feast you give us.
Give us the peace to live with uncertainty, with questions, with doubts.
Help us to experience the resurrection anew with open wonder and an increasing ability to see you in the people of Easter. Amen.

Hallelujah What a Savior

Modernized Hymn, originally from Ascend the Hill. Joseph Farrar

Man of Sorrows! what a name. For the Son of God, who came, Ruined sinners to reclaim:

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,  In my place condemned He stood. He sealed my pardon with His blood:

Hallelujah! What a Savior!  Hallelujah...

Guilty, vile, and helpless me;  Spotless Lamb of God was He; Full atonement! can it be?

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;  "It is finished!" was His cry; Now in Heaven exalted high:

Hallelujah! What a Savior!  Hallelujah...

When He comes, our glorious King, All His ransomed home to bring, Then anew this song we'll sing:

Hallelujah! What a Savior!  Hallelujah...
