Christmas Eve 2021

Our Home Worship service is much like our in-person service. As you work your way through Home Worship, we hope it is meaningful for you.

Staying home is a form of loving your neighbor. You may be staying home for your own health but in reality you then become less of a carrier to others that you might come in contact with. If you are not comfortable attending socially distanced activities, please stay home and stay in touch! We hope you will feel close to God who is near even if we are far apart.

May God Bless you and Keep you.

O Come, All Ye Faithful

Call to Worship Isaiah 60:1-13

Jerusalem’s coming radiance
Arise! Shine! Your light has come;
the Lord’s glory has shone upon you.
Though darkness covers the earth
    and gloom the nations,
    the Lord will shine upon you;
God’s glory will appear over you.
Nations will come to your light
and kings to your dawning radiance.

Hark! The Herald Angels' Sing

Hark the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild God and sinners reconciled" Joyful, all ye nations rise Join the triumph of the skies With the angelic host proclaim:  "Christ is born in Bethlehem" Hark! The herald angels sing  "Glory to the newborn King!" Christ by highest heav'n adored  Christ the everlasting Lord!  Late in time behold Him come  Offspring of a Virgin's womb

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see  Hail the incarnate Deity Pleased as man with man to dwell  Jesus, our Emmanuel  Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!  Hail the Son of Righteousness!  Light and life to all He brings  Ris'n with healing in His wings  Mild He lays His glory by  Born that man no more may die Born to raise the sons of earth Born to give them second birth  Hark! The herald angels sing  "Glory to the newborn King!"

A Prayer for Christmas Eve

Living God, who crowns another year with peace and goodwill help us to remember the birth of Jesus in the humble animal barn, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the doors of hate and open the doors of love all over the world? Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil, by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. This is the eve that holds such promise, the eve that will be remembered forever, the eve that changed everything. We remember this moment now and continue to wonder at your amazing plans, at your unfailing love, and at your amazing grace. May the coming Christmas morning make us happy to be your children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our bed with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen

Scripture Lesson: John 12: 35-36; 46 (CEB)

35 Jesus replied, “The light is with you for only a little while. Walk while you have the light so that darkness doesn’t overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness don’t know where they are going. 36 As long as you have the light, believe in the light so that you might become people whose lives are determined by the light.” After Jesus said these things, he went away and hid from them.46 I have come as a light into the world so that everyone who believes in me won’t live in darkness.

Sermon: The Light Has Come

The light has come so walk in the light.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

Verse 1

O little town of Bethlehem

How still we see thee lie

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

The silent stars go by

Yet in thy dark streets shineth

The everlasting Light

The hopes and fears of all the years

Are met in thee tonight

Verse 2

For Christ is born of Mary

And gathered all above

While mortals sleep

The angels keep their watch of wondering love

O morning stars together

Proclaim the holy birth

And praises sing to God the King

And peace to men on earth

Verse 3

How silently how silently

The wondrous gift is given

So God imparts to human hearts

The blessings of His heaven

No ear may hear His coming

But in this world of sin

Where meek souls will receive Him still

The dear Christ enters in

Verse 4

O holy Child of Bethlehem

Descend to us we pray

Cast out our sin and enter in

Be born in us today

We hear the Christmas angels

The great glad tidings tell

O come to us abide with us

Our Lord Emmanuel.

Silent Night, Holy Night

Please light a candle and sing a long.

Silent night holy night

All is calm all is bright

'Round yon virgin mother and child

Holy infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Sleep in heavenly peace

Verse 2

Silent night holy night

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heav'nly hosts sing alleluia

Christ the Savior is born

Christ the Savior is born

Verse 3

Silent night holy night

Son of God love's pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus Lord at Thy birth

Jesus Lord at Thy birth

Verse 4

Silent Night, holy night,

Wondrous star lend thy light;

With the angels let us sing

Alleluia to our king;

Christ the Savior is born,

Christ the savior is born.
