Prelude: I Love to Tell the Story

Chorus: I love to tell the story, 'Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old old story, Of Jesus and His love

Verse 1

I love to tell the story, Of unseen things above

Of Jesus and His glory, Of Jesus and His love

I love to tell the story, Because I know 'tis true

It satisfies my longings, As nothing else can do

Verse 2

I love to tell the story, More wonderful it seems

Than all the golden fancies, Of all our golden dreams

I love to tell the story, It did so much for me

And that is just the reason, I tell it now to thee

Verse 3

I love to tell the story, 'Tis pleasant to repeat

What seems each time I tell it, More wonderfully sweet

I love to tell the story, For some have never heard

The message of salvation, From God's own holy Word

Verse 4

I love to tell the story, For those who know it best

Seem hungering and thirsting, To hear it like the rest

And when in scenes of glory, I sing the new new song

'Twill be the old old story, That I have loved so long

Psalm 63:1-8 and Gloria Patri

Leader: oh God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirst for you; my flesh faint for you: as in a dry and weary land where no water is.

People : so I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.

Leader: because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

People: so I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name.

Leader: my soul is feasted as with marrow and fat, and my mouth praises you with joyful lips, when I think of you upon my bed, and meditate on you and the watches of the night;

People: for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

Gloria Patri: Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Blessing of Devices, Teachers and Students

God, you call us to share your Good News of love, justice and peace with a world in need…

You have gifted us with rich resources from scripture, tradition, reason and experience…

Which have allowed people to develop new ways of listening to the voices of many others, attending to their interests and concerns, connecting with diverse peoples and groups, and engaging them as a people of faith…

We ask your blessing on our digitally-integrated ministries and on the many devices we use to love and serve our neighbors in a changing world.

May they never become distractions from relationships or idols in our hands. May we always remember that your Son, Jesus Christ, is the one true mediator of your love and grace in the wired world. Amen.

Prayer for a New and Different School Year by Rev. Monique McBride

God, this year feels different and new, So many things to think about and many things to do. We know no matter where we are or where we choose to go, You are always with us helping us to learn and grow. When you feel far away, help us remember You are near. Remind us to talk to You when we are feeling sadness, joy, or fear. And, if there are things we can do or say to help another, Help us to love all people as our sisters and our brothers. May Your love work through us as we begin this new school year. Guide our steps, give us peace, and remind us You’re always here. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen

Message: Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone?

The kingdom of God looks just like this, we, giving ourselves to one another in sacrificial love after the example of Jesus Christ, our Lord. What does sacrificial love look like in 2020.

Prayer: Holy God, you call us by name and invite us into the life of faithfulness and obedience. When we don’t hear your voice or let other voices drown out your call, you still persist. As we offer our gifts, may we bring not only our wealth but our whole lives to your altar, ready to listen to where you would send us, for the sake of your Kingdom and Christ’s coming. Amen.

Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone - Joseph Farrar

Verse 1

Must Jesus bear the cross alone And all the world go free

No there's a cross for everyone And there's a cross for me

Verse 2

The consecrated cross I'll bear Till death shall set me free

And then go home my crown to wear For there's a crown for me

Verse 3

Upon the crystal pavement Down at Jesus' pierced feet

Joyful I'll cast my golden crown And His dear name repeat

Verse 4

O precious cross O glorious crown O resurrection day

Ye angels from the stars come down And bear my soul away

Verse 5

How happy are the saints above Who once went sorr'wing here

But now they taste unmingled love And joy without a tear

Mission Focus: Florida UM Children's Home

The Fifth Sunday offering was created in 1906 as a way to fund the creation of what is now the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. It continues to this day as a way to fund the ongoing daily operations in caring for the abused, abandoned and neglected children that we serve. While many churches are not meeting for traditional worship services, you can still make a special Fifth Sunday offering to support the Children’s Home at https://www.fumch.org/making-a-difference/make-a-donation/.

This has been a very trying year for us all, specifically the last few months. COVID-19 has wreaked absolute havoc not only on our communities, but also on our state, our nation, and our world. We witnessed the vast effects that this virus has had on various aspects of our society, as well as those who have personally walked directly through a battle with the disease. Many continue to struggle with it. Here at the Children’s Home, we walked through the same fear, anxiety, and worry that others have experienced – and it continues. In addition to the stress and uncertainty caused by this current pandemic, the children in our care have experienced other forms of trauma, which also affect their families. Their need for healing continues.

Please consider making a special gift to the Children's Home today.
